In the Flow with Healing Waters
Without labels, who are we REALLY?
My family and I decided to take a spring break trip to the Caribbean. As we were excitedly preparing, my sons and husband got ready by downloading a bunch of movies for the trip. I downloaded a few things on my phone too but as I got on the plane, I got my computer out and started writing my book.
It was comical to me that while I was typing, the gal next to me asked if I was a writer. Labels is one of the sections I was working on in my book and it was funny to me as I said, “Yes I am,” back to her.
It was only recently that I started getting nudged to start a book. I told a few people a few months ago and had good feedback, then I stalled out a bit. The last straw was when I told my co-workers and my mom that I was going to start my book on the trip. My mom said “don’t you want to relax and read someone’s book? And my co-workers said “don’t you just want to relax?” Again, I laughed as I was wondering if they all saw I am a tensed up ball and needed a break. I am also not sure they saw me yet as a writer either. I guess I am adopting the label of a writer for myself.
What are labels? I’m not talking about labels on clothes or activities, or labels on food or materialistic things. I’m talking about the labels we put on people and on ourselves.
I am becoming aware of labels that we live within. Labels of good/bad, labels of who we think we are, labels of how we feel, labels of what we can do. Without labels, who are we REALLY?
As I sat with that question, I can only describe it as layers.
When someone asks you who you are, you usually respond with a superficial layer of name, occupation, some type of title you have. “I AM Susan, I AM a teacher of energy and most recently, a writer.”
Next layer could be some type of feeling that you feel. “I AM good, I AM happy.”
Next layer is deep and is a stand alone “ I AM”.
As I learn and understand the I AM, it amazes me how powerful of a statement I AM is.
When we label who we are, we are empowered in who we are. When I labeled myself as a writer, I felt something deep within me feel empowered. It’s interesting to me that I haven’t even finished this book, edited, or published it but can feel the amazing expanding feeling of that label I have placed on myself.
Makes me question what other labels I will get to tap into as I connect with this deep part of me. My I AM is talking and nudging and I AM listening.
Denise and I continue to be amazed at the I AM retreats, hearing how students are feeling empowered and bringing change into their lives, and it brings tears of joy to our eyes quite often.
Truly it is a great privilege that we can help people tap into their own I AMs and they get to start to listen and live from this beautiful expansive place.
We are excited to announce our I AM Movement page is now ready on our website! Join the I AM Movement by becoming aware of this I AM! Let’s do this together!
I AM in the flow,
Susan
